Family Farm Life, Memories in the Making

Beautiful, painted by Nancy who was living in the moderate stages of Alzheimer's. *Nancy's language was impaired due to a stroke, and her words were often jumbled and fragmented. She loved to paint and would express her emotions using color. If she was in a bad mood, she would paint in red and black, her good moods were often painted with softer pastel colors, as seen here. When asked what she thought about this, she was able to say one word, "Beautiful."

The Journey Within, was created by a ten year old who was managing depression, anxiety and a family going through a divorce. Upon his healing, he created this beaded mandala, selecting the colors that represented his support systems. He started improving at school, and family interactions at home also improved. Through learned coping skills in art therapy, he was able to recognize his triggers and apply mindfulness practice techniques to ease the symptoms
